Tarek Tantawy is CI Capital’s Managing Director & Group Deputy CEO; brings more than 19 years of financial and leadership experience to CI Capital team. During his career, he has successfully led companies to sales growth, business expansion, operational efficiency, and significant profitability. Tantawy combines experience and expertise to meet challenges through a proven track record of operational leadership, strategy development, team building, financial management, as well as relationship management.
Since joining CI Capital in 2015, Tantawy participated in the institutionalisation and transformation of the Group into a leading financial services institution. He played a significant role in the Group’s inorganic growth initiatives through the acquisition of majority stakes in CorpLease and Reefy. Tantawy also led the centralisation of support function across the Group, with the objective of realising operational synergies and cost efficiency, contributing to the Group’s increased profitability. He also supported the investment banking team in several M&A and acquisition finance transactions.
Prior to joining CI Capital, Tantawy held several senior roles in leading Egyptian companies, including CEO and Managing Director of Telecom Egypt, Vice President and CFO of Telecom Egypt, CFO of IDJ-Beyti (a JV of Almarai & Pepsico), Vice President of the Investment Banking division at Sigma Capital, and Senior Consultant in the Corporate Finance division at FinRate Consulting.
Throughout his career, Tantawy has led the execution of several landmark equity and debt transactions, including the privatisation of Telecom Egypt, through an international IPO (cUSD900mn), acquisition of a 45% stake in Vodafone Egypt (cUSD1bn). He also played a role in raising more than USD1.5bn via local and international markets through bond offerings and syndicated loans. Tantawy was responsible for managing a portfolio of investments in excess of EGP15bn. He was involved in several corporate restructuring and successful turn-around assignments of various companies in Egypt in the Telecom, IT and FMCG sectors.
Tantawy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering from the American University in Cairo, Egypt, and an MBA from Edinburgh Business School in the United Kingdom, and is a CFA charter holder. He attended executive education programmes in Kellogg Graduate School of Management in the United States and IESA Business School in Spain.
Tantawy is a member of CI Capital Holding’s Board of Directors, as well as CorpLease and Reefy. Previously, Tantawy served on several boards for publically listed and private companies, including Telecom Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, IDJ-Beyti, TE Data, and Technology Development Fund.
